When the Stars Go Dark

Even detectives can’t run away…

Shortest Summary Ever: Anna, a San Francisco detective is running away, or getting away… to the only place she feels roots, Northern Cali, where she resided with her loving foster parents years ago. But if she thought she’d clear her head she’s mistaken because girls are missing and as my middle school students would say, things are looking “sus.” Anna dives in and joins up with local police to nab the culprit , all the while battling her own demons and depression.

Thoughts: First read of McClain for me and… swoon! This is a duo mystery – sure there’s a missing girl but Anna herself is an enigma, something happened that made her run becomes a mystery in itself; there’s something she just can’t face. Her story mixed into the puzzling darkness surrounding the town of Mendocino makes for a read that’s nails-stuck-in-the-cloth-of-the-edge-of-my-seat thrilling. Yep, THAT good. A story that’s well-written, characters fully developed, and intriguing plot (I mean dang), what more do ya need reader?

Genre: Mystery/Contemporary Mystery

Recommend to: This one is for allll the thriller peeps. Probably a 6/10 gruesome-wise but serial killer twisted enough to satisfy us weirdos who love to be afraid.

Not recommended to: If you want to avoid any talk of abuse or rape, etc.
