My mom and dad have now been married over 50 years (52 this yr!) and they’ve got a certain spunk to their marriage, that sort of closeness that comes with knowing someone so well and loving them unconditionally. It’s very rare. My parents never run out of topics to discuss – they are truly one another’s best friends. They’ve taught me what love is really about – trust, honesty, putting the other person ahead of your own needs at times .
Many years after I broke up with someone I thought was *the one* I found out I was right in breaking up with him, because low and behold, he had been cheating on me. I learned to trust my gut because it’s never steered me wrong. Unless it’s as good as what my parents have, it’s just not worth it! True love is special and endures. As for my parents, they still have that spark!
